Duncan Farms Accelerates Performance with Moba Vision Technology
Duncan Farms is a family-owned enterprise based in the north of Scotland, with a strong reputation for innovation, efficiency, and long-term thinking in egg production. What started as a diversification into eggs in 2011 has grown into a large-scale, vertically integrated operation supplying major retailers, while maintaining full control over production, quality, and logistics.
Today, egg production is the core of Duncan Farms’ business, supported by cereal production and sheep farming. The company farms over 5,000 hectares, nearly 3,000 of which are dedicated to grain production, and markets the eggs from nearly one million birds. With an output of over five million eggs per week, Duncan Farms operates on a significant scale, while focusing on free-range and organic production.
A key milestone in this expansion has been the investment in the Omnia PX530 grader; equipped with the latest Vision technology. The addition of this new line has significantly reduced production times, enabling Duncan Farms to complete daily grading operations several hours earlier than before. As Dave Green, Managing Director and CEO of Duncan Farms, explains: “We’ve certainly cut the day shorter by three to four hours a day.”
Rather than replacing existing equipment, the company chose to keep its original Omnia FT330 grader, ensuring continuity during installation while expanding the grading facility. This setup provides flexibility, and efficiency, allowing production to continue seamlessly while adapting to the new production line.
Driving efficiency Through Vision Technology
Duncan Farms required a grading solution that could deliver a higher throughput and above all consistent egg quality The implementation of Moba’s Vision technology proved to be a decisive step forward.
The new production line allows for highly accurate inspection without moving parts. “it just makes things easier to maintain, as opposed to needing an Engineer that knows how everything connects”.
Better Control, Better Results
“Our business is about having control”, says Dave Green. Beyond maintenance and food safety improvement, Vision technology has provided Duncan Farms with a higher level of control over grading decisions. “We can be a lot more specific about what we’re picking out, maximizing our productivity and profitability”. The allows operators to fine-tune inspection criteria, reducing the amount off-grades while maintaining consistent quality for retail customers. This level of precision supports Duncan Farms’ data-driven approach, in which real-time insights help optimize performance throughout the vertically integrated company.
A Partnership Focused on Long-Term Performance
Throughout the project, Duncan Farms worked closely with Moba specialists to design an optimal grading facility. “You produced a number of proposals, eventually leading to an optimal flow within our line, suited to what we need now and also in the future”. The Service and Project Management team ensured a smooth transition to the new line. This collaborative approach helped translate our growth plans into an efficient, future-proof solution.
Today, Moba’s Vision technology plays a central role in Duncan Farms’ grading operation. It is delivering measurable improvements in efficiency, reliability, and product quality. It’s a perfect example of how technology can support sustainable growth and profitability in modern egg production.
